Alan Walbridge Ladd (1913-1964) is certainly best known for his western portrayals,
but his film resume included detective noir, straight adventure, drama and even a
little comedy. He was at one time a Top-20 American film star. Though his early film
career was hampered by his short stature, his acting chops soon overcame that
factor and Ladd starred alongside other greats of the day. His portrayal of the tragic
hero Shane is considered one of the most iconic western roles of all time. His comic
career was more modest, a nine-issue run (1949-1951), but full of excitement in a
wide variety of genres!
These comics sport a stellar array of artists including Carmine Infantino, Joe Certa
and Ruben Moreira.
