There have been several books written on the British Army Catering Corps (ACC) either from the first day of its formation in 1941 and/or all the way through to the Royal Logistic Corps being formed in 1993. Unfortunately some of these accounts were never mass produced.
Where did it all begin? The ACC; what was it all about? And how did training develop throughout the years? What did it really involve?
With this in mind I set myself a task of tracing ordinary men and women who were trained in Aldershot from Ramillies, Tournai, Clayton and finally at St Omer Barracks. I combined an account of how we, as soldiers became a part of British Army history.
This is the second volume of two with first-hand accounts from the men and women who were there. The result is a unique look into the lives and memories from past ACC and the present Royal Logistic Corps soldiers.
Wrapped within this volume, now in a black and white copy, are personal anecdotes whilst incorporating the history of the Corps through others fields of literature and how it was transformed into a now disbanded part of the British Army.
Sometimes poignant, at other times surprising and even humorous; the personal experiences of these soldier's tells the story of the Corps in their own way.
This second volume falls into place by just before the end of the 1960's. These are the chapters that shaped and moulded the former civilian's into soldiers, and then a "Soldier first, and a Chef second".
