Her book, The Blacker the Berry, The Sweeter the Juice: How Deeply Held Secrets Can Impact Who You Become, is written to make people aware of how keeping or revealing family secrets and long-held stereotypical beliefs can have a profound impact on the members of families for generations. This book also points out how subtly and profoundly the color of one's skin and skin tone plays a role in how one sees themselves and how they are seen by others. This book also hits hard at the role colorism plays in furthering discrimination against African Americans.
