THE COMPLETE LUCKY STAR WESTERN VOLUME ONE rounds up the first four issues of Nation-Wide's
seven issue series. Lucky Star rides through the old west righting wrongs and helping settlers and
Native Americans alike. He is aided in his adventures by his horse Thunder, the rotund and ever
faithful Poncho along with Poncho's son Vamos. Lucky would often come to the aid of Jack Drew, the
owner of the Bar Double R ranch and his daughter, the beautiful and wholesome Miss Penny.
The amazing Jack Davis drew most of the first and second issues with many of the art chores being
taken over by Frank Carlin by the third issue. Quality warning, LUCKY STAR was originally published as
a digest size comic so some of the illustrations and colors do not appear as crisply as I would have
preferred when blown up to the standard 8'X 11' format. That said, THE COMPLETE LUCKY STAR
WESTERN VOLUME ONE is still a highly enjoyable series and good examples of the western genre in
comics during the early 1950's.
