Only two months after the independence of Kosovo itself, the constitution of the new country was signed on the 7th of April, 2008, at the national library in Prishtina. The constitution was ratified on 9th of April and came to effect on the 15th of June, 2008. The Constitution of Kosovo (or Kosova), refers to the supreme law (article 16) of the Republic of Kosovo. Article four of the constitution establishes the rules and separate powers of the three branches of the government. This English edition of the document, with an Introduction, Map, and Transliteration Chart will give the reader a general overview of the laws and the governing body of this new country in the heart of Europe aspiring to soon join the European Union.
