THE DARKER POSSIBILITIES
is a sequel to Rocky Leplin's
NIGHTMARES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
But is it
SCARIER?
Or does that depend on what poem you're reading? What about suspicious Halloween
Treats
from your next door neighbor?
We like our next door neighbor
With his funny "Har har har!"
He laughs a lot and claims
That he is from another star
He's friendly, and he tells me about
The time he got his scar
But the treats he gives on Halloween?
We don't know what they are. How about when
Things
start showing up in your house, and you don't know what
they
are?
When the Things start
Oozing through the walls
You won't be expecting them at all
They'll give no warning
They'll just start forming
Normally at the very darkest
Corners of the hall. Then there are strange discoveries, like the
Voices
from the Moon
Now when the Moon's a sliver
It's true they're rather faint
And when it is a quarter
They don't speak without restraint
But as it grows in size
They grow proportionately bold
I recommend some earplugs
For when the full Moon turns to gold. And let's not forget the
Innocents!
(Butterflies, that is)
What is it about them
That makes the expert's eyebrow wrinkle?
Or causes the professor's eye
To swiftly lose its twinkle?
Is it merely their appearance?
Could it be the way they smell?
But no-no landing strip gives clearance
To the Butterflies from Hell. Poems to read by candlefire,
The
Darker Possibilities
are verses of the spooky, strange, mythic, and fun!
