The year is 4094, and the world of Chancea has been reduced to tiny islands oppressed by an abusive government. On one of these islands, three best friends fall into their daily routine: dreaming of better futures as they spar. Aquiline is ferocious and confident in both her fighting and demeanor, but outside of competition silently yearns for somewhere to belong. Cliff carries the frustration of being the underdog and leaps at opportunities to prove his worth. Blaze's quiet nature and strength bring him expertise beyond his years, and though he understands the abuses of the government, he still plans to join it one day. Yet suddenly an even greater evil than the government appears: the Umbra, a terrifying shadow with otherworldly powers.
