Excerpt from The Diagnosis of Nervous Diseases
The present edition has been revised and in part rewritten. A short chapter upon war neuroses, regarded from the clinical standpoint has been added, but without attempting to discuss the various meta physical theories, more or less abstruse, propounded to explain them by eminent psychologists of different schools.
Contemporaneously with the publication of the present volume, a Spanish edition of the work is being published in Barcelona.
From the kindly reception accorded to former editions of this work, it is not unreasonable to infer that it has probably been found of some practical use. Nevertheless, the person who learns most from such a book is not the reader, but the writer himself.
Izhave to: acknowledge my indebtedness to the many co - workers whose observations have been incorporated in the present edition and have helped to remedy some of its deficiencies. I have also to thank my colleague Dr. Hildred Carlill for his kind help in correcting the proof-sheets as they passed through the press.
Fig. 63, p. 135, is borrowed, by kind permission of the author, from Professor Judson Herrick's Introduction to Neurology.
