Happy Cloud, the omnipotent supreme overlord of everything ever, faces a dilemma. Practical Planet is overpopulated and dying, and he can't find a new home for the Practical Forecasters, its invincible, immortal inhabitants. He casts his mind out across the Practiverse and finds a cheerful little planet that is perfect for his needs.
There's one problem: that planet, Earth, is already populated by billions of funny little creatures called humans.
Humanity soon finds itself besieged by all things Practical, be it the droves of invincible warriors swarming across Earth's surface, the legions of hive-minded Fake Forecasters controlled by the industrious Duprins, or the humans themselves, warped into terrifying imitations of Practical Forecasters by a mysterious substance known only as Practicide. Many attempt to fight back against the unrelenting tide of Practicality; none succeed.
As carnage reigns across Earth and Happy Cloud grapples with the extent of his own omnipotence, one team of ordinary humans stands strong, journeying across the United States, Venezuela, and the cold, open ocean in their attempt to outlast the mass extinction of humanity for as long as they possibly can.
