Working with the assets of the Glyndebourne auditorium - a venue highly reputed for the intimacy of its setting - opera impresario Jonathan Kent mounted this 2009 production of Henry Purcell's epic-length, English-language semi-opera +The Fairy Queen. The work itself constitutes a loose adaptation of William Shakespeare's +A Midsummer Night's Dream; this particular production stars Lucy Crowe, Carolyn Sampson, Ed Lyon and Andrew Foster-Williams. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and The Glyndebourne Chorus provide musical accompaniment, with William Christie conducting, Paul Brown designed the sets, and Kent directs for the stage.
