His distinguished Irishman. From County Derry, was born in 1857, and was educated at Queen's Colleges, Galway and Belfast, graduating m.a. In the Queen's University, Ireland, in i878. He studied medicine at Belfast, but did not enter for the final M.D. Examination, this being prevented by his appointment to China; but in May, 1881, he received the diploma of Edinburgh.
Dr. Henry entered the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs Service in June, 1881, as medical officer and assistant.
His first station was at Shanghai, but he was soon transferred to Ichang, where he remained from 1882 to 1889.
