Excerpt from The Gentleman's Magazine and Historical Review, Vol. 211: 1861, July to December Inclusive
Though we studiously avoid the expression of party views, and therefore seldom allude to home politics, one measure of the last Smion of Parliament has the appearance of so affecting our position that a few words on it will naturally be expected by our readers. We know that, in' general, they are not of the class which expected wonders from the repeal of the paper duty, and so feel no surprise to find the price of our publication the same as before. The dif ference to our Publisher is, as he assures us, far less than might be weeted, but any benefit arising from it he is quite ready to give to our readers, and he has therefore placed additional space at our disposal, which we trust will enable us to treat with suf ficient fulness all the various matters that may be fairly looked for in the oldest Magazine in existence, and one which has ever been a means of intercommunication for the educated classes.
