The Gold Digger's Confession is a work of fiction based on a true confession published in the Cedar Rapids Newspapers in 1903. There is mystery and romance in Gabby Snow's boarding house as boarder, LeBarge, tells his gold rush stories to young Caleb. Will LeBarge reveal his darkest secret from that fateful night near Eddyville, Iowa that results in the confession. The Confession arrived October, 1903 addressed to "The Post Master, Eddyville, Iowa." Mr. W.W, DeLong who was Post Master and Editor of the Eddyville Tribune captivated his readers with the published details of a mysterious murder committed at the turn north of the Eddyville Cemetery and a map with the possibility of a fortune in gold buried nearby twenty-five years before. When news about the gold was revealed it is said hundreds came looking to find the fortune.
