Smashing a birthday cake into her brother's face without touching it- that's how 14-year-old Abby Woods discovers she has telekinesis. She is soon visited by a woman who invites her to the Isle of Peritia for the summer; a place where people who have other kinetic and paranormal gifts learn how to strengthen and control their mind. Once on the island, Abby is labeled as a Newlie (someone who is the first in their family to have abilities) which is somewhat rare. Even more astonishing is the fact that she has more than one, which she should not since she is a Newlie. This causes her to question why she is so special. She can pick up heavy furniture with her mind when she shouldn't be able to pick up more than a golf ball at this stage of training. And she can make an entire lake freeze solid when she should only be able to freeze a glass of water. The creator of the island and head of the school, Asher Dae, gives her lessons to help deal with the extra abilities and tame the strength they come with. As Abby continues to search for a reason why her mind is so strong, she learns of Asher's twin brother, Vago, who is wanted for murder. She soon finds out that she is The Kinetic Keeper, a child foretold of having gifts never before witnessed. And because of this, Vago is coming after her, to have her abilities for his own.
