Most folks in Deacon's Landing, Connecticut are familiar with the urban legend of Denham, a narrow dead-end street out in the sticks whose residents are said to worship Satan. Spence believed the stories when he was younger. He even ventured there with his friends on many occasions to see if they could spot any nefarious rituals or signs of occult activity. A few times they even worked up the courage to sneak up to the main house, a Victorian mansion named Greystone Manor. Aside from a few unusual details they never found any positive signs of devil worship. Eventually Spence grew up and the legend of Denham became just another memory of his wasted teenaged years...until his sister Katie accepts a position at Greystone Manor.
Katie Spencer is hired to be a servant in the seemingly never-ending house. She and her fellow new hire, Amanda Regan, learn what is expected of them from their new bosses, Mr. Exton and Ms. Palmer. Greystone's owners, the impossibly old William and Arthur Morley, are returning from abroad and a new staff is needed to see to their needs. Katie figures she can earn enough money during the Morleys' visit to finally escape Deacon's Landing forever.
When Spence learns of his sister's new job he gathers together his old friends and plans a return to Denham. Just to be sure Katie is safe, or so he tells himself. It's the perfect excuse to see his old crew again and relive an exciting, if pointless, time from their younger years.
What Spence and his friends encounter at Denham is more than mere legend. They soon find
themselves in a fight for their lives against an enemy none of them truly believed existed. Spence will have to venture into the last place he ever expected, inside the giant Victorian itself, to find his sister.
At long last the Lords of Greystone have returned home...
