THE MANY LOVES OF DOBIE GILLIS comic book series was based on a CBS television series that ran
from September of 1959 to June of 1963. The series centered on Dobie Gillis, a typical American
teenager, who struggles to gain popularity, money, and the attention of beautiful women. Along with
his beatnik buddy Maynard G. Krebs, Dobie is constantly up to some sort of shenanigans to find a
shortcut to the approval and wealth he wants without actually having to do actual work. The
television show was funny and a moderate success, lasting for four seasons, so it was only natural
that someone would publish a comic book based on the series.
D.C. Comics began publishing their adaptation of THE MANY LOVES OF DOBIE GILLIS in June of 1960.
The comic would last a total of twenty-six issues and would highlight the talents of Bob Oksner, Mort
Drucker, Henry Boltinoff, Bernard Baily, Win Mortimer and other staples of the D.C. bullpen at the
time. THE MANY LOVES OF DOBIE GILLIS was one of the rare series that was not only funny but also
wise, witty and ultimately progressive for its time.
This book was compiled with the best images currently available. That stated, these comics are sixty
years old. The best efforts have been made to make the pages as enjoyable as possible but not every
panel is perfect and some allowances for the age of the books need to be considered when judging
the overall contents.
