"New York After Midnight, a new division of Blue Underground, shows promise with their debut release of Midnight Blue: The Deep Throat Special Edition. Fans who buy this shouldn't expect top-shelf audio and video quality: the material used here was taken from first-generation masters but those masters were made on low-tech video equipment. Thus, the video is a bit dull and shows some wear and tear while the sound is occasionally a bit boxy due to low-grade equipment and less-than-ideal recording situations. Still, New York After Midnight has done a decent job remastering this material as much as its limitations would allow and the end result is never less than watchable. Bonus materials are limited to a pair of short, poorly-recorded interviews with Gerard Damiano and Harry Reems but these interviews are well worth the listen for fans (just be prepared to use some headphones). All in all, Midnight Blue: The Deep Throat Special Edition does the best it can with limited source materials and puts together a finished program that is quite amusing for fans of vintage adult filmmaking. It's a worthwhile beginning for this new company and enough to make one hope they'll continue unearthing more of Midnight Blue."
