This book was adapted by Vos from his scholarly dissertation. During late 19 century Germany, it had become popular among theologians to deny that Moses authored most of the early Bible. Responding to these trends, Vos mounts a vigorous defense of Moses as the person behind the Old Testament lore, citing the linguistic dynamics, testimonies of early prophets, and various indications and references to Mosaic origin elsewhere in the Bible. With this multi-faceted approach, the reader is persuaded that Moses did infact write the Pentateuch. Although Vos wrote this text aged only in his twenties, he proves an extensively well-read and convincing narrator who demonstrates a voracious knowledge of the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. Organized from the outset, Vos presents a chart in the first chapter which sets out the structure of his various arguments, and their relation to one another. The book itself contains direct quotations of the original Hebrew, that readers may gain maximal insight into the ancient lore.
