David Kendal, a celebrated and highly successful New York City architect and structural engineer, is wheelchair bound after a devastating car accident. He is also separated from his wife, Alaina, who left him after putting up with his philandering ways for years. He is a broken man both in body and spirit when Alaina's uncle, Charlie Townsend, intervenes and carries him to his Montana ranch to recuperate. Eventually David gives his heart to Christ and his life is radically transformed. Several years later, circumstances force David and Alaina back together, but whereas David wants a reconciliation with his wife and the opportunity to show her how much he's changed, Alaina doesn't trust him and cannot hide the bitterness and disillusionment his years of infidelity has caused. In the months to follow, David realizes that not even a remnant of the great love Alaina once had for him remains, and he begins to understand that only God can heal her heart and grant her the courage to give him and their marriage a second chance.
