He is a graduate of New Mexico Military Institute and New Mexico State University with an honors degree in Range Science. He also did graduate work in Range Science at Texas Tech University. Now retired, Carrigan's career included the USDA, BASF, and DuPont. Also, he served a 12 month tour as agricultural advisor to the Provincial Reconstruction Team, Anbar Province, Iraq and taught ESL in Mongolia. He currently lives in Windsor, CO with his wife of 52 years where he is a middle school substitute teacher and avid golfer.
