Following Queen Tiye's orders, Senmut and his family move to Akhetaten where he serves Tiye as her personal physician. He is far from comfortable in the city of the self-centred royal couple Akhenaten and Nefertiti, but the daunting task that has been assigned to him leaves him with no choice. Senmut's unexpected encounter with Sadeh, his first wife and Rahotep's birth mother, brings his most secret fears to light that soon threaten to take him over. When a terrible disease breaks out in the wake of King Akhenaten's glamorous reception of foreign delegations, Senmut is adamant that appropriate measures be taken to keep the epidemic from spreading over the entire city. However, his efforts don't meet with everyone's approval, and when eventually even the royal house is stricken by disaster, many an accusing finger points at him. All the while Senmut is convinced that it is only a matter of time until Queen Nefertiti gets on to his track. After Senmut tends to the victims of cruel torture in spite of pharaoh's ban, the situation becomes so volatile that he can see only one way out.
