The origin Of the Speakership is to be found in The Good Parliament held in 1376, the fiftieth year of the reign Of Edward 111. The Rolls began in 1278, the sixth year Of the reign Of Edward I., and ended in 1503, the nineteenth year Of the reign of Henry VII. They consist of reports by Chancery Ofl'icials concerning the petitions, pleas, and proceedings of Parliament, and were printed by order in six folio volumes during the years 1767 to 1777 under the title Rotuli Parliamentum. As the records in the early volumes are given in a mixture Of norman-french, Latin.
