Each child takes the reader through their experience of displacement and migration by describing their experiences in their native countries as well as their journey to where they are now on the path to migration. The warm welcome they receive from their friend, Alexis and his grandfather gives them the hope and strength to continue on the journey to fulfilling their hopes and dreams. As a collaborative effort to provide a sense of comfort to these children, author and illustrator Shirin Zarqa-Lederman and The Refugee Workshop Group, of the International Psychology Department at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology began creating, "The Story of Amal." The story is a simple demonstration of the innocence of childhood and the navigation through their journey. The story provides an account of where these children came from, how they are perserving in the face of their current adversity, and the power of resiliance.
