The Sucker-Footed Bat is an unusual species of bat as you will later learn in this book.
This type of bat is also called Madagascar Sucker Footed Bat because of where it is found (in Madagascar). Madagascar is an island off Africa that serves as the home of different species of animals - including this type of bat.
Since this species of bat has existed even before the 16th century, it is also called the Old World Sucker Footer Bat. The New World only started around the 16th century - so you can just imagine how old this species of bat is.
As you have already noticed, it goes by a lot of names - but it's basically a Sucker-Footed Bat (and that's what we'll call it). That's actually its best description as there are small suction cups on its wrists and ankles that allow it to attach itself to slippery surfaces.
