It's closing in on July Fourth and everyone seems ready to celebrate the birth of the nation. Everyone, that is, except Sheriff Gus. Sure, things are born, but everything must pass away as well. Sheriff Gus was hoping on a more financially stable time before he experienced his truck's untimely death. Motor vehicles aren't the only thing passing before their time in Gus's humble county because in addition to Gus's truck a professor from the fancy George Taylor University happens to die under mysterious circumstances. The professor's main passion in life was paleontology or to be more specific discovering the solution to the cause of the time of the great dying. Gus finds plenty of motives among the university staff, but which one is the correct one? The problem for Gus is that the prime motives he discovers; another lifeless fossilized stone, the winning of university chairs, and the prospect of a stale romance, all hardly seem worth the bother of killing anyone over. He'll have to sort through his suspects and scale a mountain of obstacles ranging from bigoted university presidents, ethics training consultants, used car salesmen, mobsters, to emotional French artists if he's going to reach his goal of getting a new truck and solving a murder. Can Gus finance a new truck, complete ethics training, celebrate the Fourth of July, and discover his murderer before the paleontology department staff of George Taylor University have all gone extinct? Filled with quirky characters and biting social satire, The Time of the Great Dying: A Sheriff Gus Mystery is a fast-paced murder thriller about an aging sheriff in an increasingly deadly world.
