Cain, a young college student, wakes from a dream that lingers behind his eyes and the walls of his room. His day continues like every other before it, filled with an unexplainable despair and anxiety accompanied by an empty triviality. His life has become a blur of hollow obligations and desires which push and pull him like a lost speck of dust wandering in a monotone static. Yet, something pierces the noise. A song leads Cain's eyes out the window. There he spots a bird singing in the distance, flying in the sun's golden rays. This leads Cain to ask the question, am I free? This question is but a single first step of Cain's journey toward truth. As Cain travels down this path, his small world begins to crumble and change. With each step forward is a descent into his own shadow, which houses the malevolence of the world. He is laid bare before it and torn apart by it. Yet, Cain keeps his gazes upward, and to what mountain peak does this valley of death lead?
