The author, C.E. Grubbs, had been happily single all her life when in midlife she met someone. And while he was great to be around, she resisted marriage for years. One day – on a trip to Mexico – he finally won her over. Throughout the next few years, her new husband revealed an ever-increasing set of marriage rules – ironically, each new one given the designation, "Rule Number 1". When she mentioned that she couldn't find them listed anywhere, he suggested she might want to write them down, lest she forget them. At this point, the author saw an idea for a book. Thus began the tedious, but humorous evolution of "They're Just Guidelines – A Single Person's Guide to Marriage Rules."
Light and entertaining, 'Guidelines" is written with the tongue-in-cheek humor the couple shares. The author hopes that women will reap some insight in these strange rules; that the men will take away added support for their cause; and that single people will read and beware.
