Nonstop, the youngest test driver on the Thrill Kings team, can't believe the soldiers are acting this way, since most of the soldiers are near his age, and grew up in the same society that he did. Nonstop lingers after one mission and tries to talk sense to the task force members - a colossal mistake. The soldiers attack. Nonstop escapes, but not before revealing a small weakness in his team's defenses.
Nonstop is right that the soldiers are behaving oddly - they are under the control of a Colonel who is actually acting on his own, and who is aware he is running out of time to seize the interdimensional technology secretly. The weakness Nonstop reveals is enough to spur the Colonel into drastic action, and he takes a desperate gamble that puts all of reality at risk.
