Silver Age fans of Two-Gun Kid could be forgiven if they don't recognize this guy. There were to distinctly different TWO-GUN KID characters in the Marvel Universe, each with a run of around 14 years. This is the first TWO-GUN KID, Clay Harder, who appeared in various Marvel (Timely) comics from 1948-1962, when he was deemed to be nothing more than a fictional character who inspired the new Stan Lee-driven Silver Age style TWO-GUN KID. His self-titled series ran for ten issues in 1948-49, and then the character moved into anthology mags for a few years, brought back to his own series with issues #11 in 1953. Clay harder was a more straight-forward western hero, and his stories were drawn by many master of the day – including, in this collection, Russ Heath in many issues, a little Gene Colan and Gil Kane, and and entire 52-Page issue drawn by John Severin. Ironically, just as the TWO-GUN KID run was coming to an end after almost three decades, the first ten issues from the late 40s were up for renewal, but someone down in the offices at Marvel forgot about it – and so Issues #1-10 are public domain!
