Super Detective Library was a black and white British graphic novel, picture library series
originally published by Amalgamated Press in 1953. The anthology series featured a rotating cast of
popular literary detective characters that were popular with British audiences including The
Saint, Bulldog Drummond, Blackshirt and Sherlock Holmes.
Blackshirt was the nom de guerre of best selling crime novelist Richard Verrell. He starts out as a
gentleman crook and eventually turned into a crime buster over the course of his adventures.
Blackshirt was featured in a series of short stories and novels penned by Graham Montague Jefferies
using the pen name Bruce Graeme. The character was very popular in Britain from the mid 1920s
through 1940s.
SUPER DETECTIVE PICTURE LIBRARY produced nine issues staring Blackshirt, all of which are presented
here.
