Ursula lives a good life as a high school Economics teacher. Though a beautiful young lady, Ursula believes in a love based on emotions, rather than wealth or appearances; she even rejects the advances of the obsessed Gareth Jones. Her life alters immensely when she runs into Malcolm, a man with unusual facial features. The two become friends, and as the story unfolds they eventually fall in love. Although Malcolm's mother supports their union, Ursula's parents reject Malcolm due to his facial deformity- Treacher Collins Syndrome. Initially, Ursula and Malcolm continue their affair in secret. After they are exposed, Ursula is forced to break up with Malcolm. In her sorrow and misery, Ursula's parents coax her to accept Gareth, and she obliges.
However, the plan of her parents gets thwarted as Ursula discovers Gareth's secret and endangers herself. Malcolm comes to the rescue, changing Ursula's parents' perception of him, and helping them realize their mistake in judging a person by their appearance. After a couple of months, Ursula and Malcolm finally get married, and everyone accepts the couple's choice of togetherness.
