SLMM founder Mary Carroll Nelson spent years discovering how her fellow artists created art through their perception of an interconnectedness to all life, physical as well as metaphysical, that bridged the visible and invisible. She coined the word "Layering" to describe an art form in which artists invest their art with layers of emotions, memories, objects, and symbols that are combined into a whole, using a wide variety of mediums and styles. Nelson defined this perspective as holistic.
Unique Insights
is a stepping stone in SLMM's continued evolution toward increased awareness of its mission as creative artists and members with holistic intent.
