English summary: For the first time, the history of scholarly methods of comparison is presented in an interdisciplinary monograph, which then tracks the development of those emerging, intellectually, and sociologically comparable disciplines (above all comparative literature) on the basis of their roots and contexts at the beginning of the 19th century. The most important, outlines for the genealogy of comparison are presented in this work, and their recurrence in literary sources is demonstrated throughout the 19th century. From the philosophy of the Enlightenment and rationalism, where comparison was promoted as a criterion for the benefit of academically reliable results, to the aesthetic of natural history, formal linguistics, literature, and the historicization of these subjects are all used to trace the circulation of differentiating methods of comparison, which always stood in a strained relationship to historicism's complement in speculative analogy. German description: Zum ersten Mal wird die Geschichte der wissenschaftlichen Methode des Vergleichs in einer interdisziplinaren Monographie erfasst, die es erlaubt, die zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts entstehenden, geistes- und sozialwissenschaftlich vergleichenden Disziplinen - vor allem auch die literaturwissenschaftliche Komparatistik - auf ihre epistemologischen Wurzeln und Kontexte zuruckzufuhren. Die fur die Genealogie des Vergleichs wichtigsten fachlichen Entwurfe werden vorgestellt, ihr Echo in der Literatur wird aufgezeigt. Von der Philosophie der Aufklarung und des Rationalismus, wo der Vergleich zu einem Kriterium fur den Gewinn wissenschaftlich verlasslicher Ergebnisse avanciert, uber u.a. die Asthetik, die Naturgeschichte, die Sprachwissenschaft, die Literatur und deren Historisierung lasst sich die Verbreitung einer differenzierenden Methode verfolgen, die immer im spannungsreichen Wechselverhaltnis zu ihrem Komplement, der spekulativeren Analogie, steht.
