Voices from Puerto Rico: Post-Hurricane Maria is a collaborative project bringing together writings from twenty-two activists, community organizers, and artists who describe the destruction and dire conditions that Hurricane Maria exposed: widespread poverty, lack of infrastructure, and severe austerity resulting from more than 120 years of United States colonial domination and a complicit local government.
Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017, the most devastating cyclone to hit the island in almost a century. The first-person accounts, poetic narratives, and essays detail how Puerto Ricans mobilized in the immediate aftermath and the community activism that opened the door to another chapter in the country's ongoing struggle for self-determination, human rights and climate justice.
The anthology is bilingual, English and Spanish.
