Wage Regulation under the Statute of Artificers
(1938) is a study of the enforcement of the 1562 Statute of Artificers during the period of its operation, with particular reference to wage assessment and the contract of employment. Extensive use is made of manuscript sources in different parts of Britain, many of which have not hitherto been examined in this connection. An attempt is made, in the light of this and the printed evidence, to determine the effectiveness of machinery, the working of which has been a controversial issue since the study of economic history began.
