ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
An extremely original graphic novel about bookstores, libraries, and crossed fates.
During the first decades of the twentieth century, German historian Aby Warburg and American bookseller Sylvia Beach carried out two magnificent intellectual projects that nowadays are part of the cultural mythos of modernity. The Warburg Library in Hamburg—where the fascinating Mnemosyne Atlas came to be—and the Shakespeare & Company bookstore in Paris redefined the relationship between readers and writers, between art, books, and literature.
The parallel destinies of both characters converse in these pages with other revolutionary figures in the art and literature world, such as Mary Wollstonecraft, feminism pioneer and mother of the creator of Frankenstein, Londoner editor Joseph Johnson, New Yorker bookseller Frances Steloff, or the cosmopolitan and conceptual artist Marcel Duchamp.
Their lives intersect through the echoes and metaphors proposed in this original graphic novel, a dazzling narrative essay, mix of vignettes and collage.
