In the dead of night we arrived at the white Citadel. The moon was out and the fabled desert town looked very appealing. We should, of course, have waited patiently outside the city walls until morning came and the gates would open. But Fierter wanted in. He cried out to a couple of guards on the city wall high above us. After a lot of haggling, they agreed on a price and sent down a rope ladder. On my way up, I was scared and tried not to look down. Looking up I could see the full moon. It felt as if I was crawling up the ladder and straight into it.
