The saga began decades ago and follows the life of Annie, a young woman who loses her future because of the First World War, which claimed the life of her beloved Fiance' Jamie. It also left her brother Marcus, emotionally broken and transformed him from a kind gentle man into a cruel drunkard.
Because of her brothers' actions, she was forced to leave the place she called home to make a new life for herself, overcoming many hardships on the way. She eventually crosses paths with Claire and Richard and they form a close bond of friendship which continues after Annie's death.
She made her presence felt whenever Claire and Richard suffered from a traumatic time in their lives. She was there to love and support them when they lost their baby son, Michael Paul. It was through the great love she had for them that she and Jamie decided to give up their Eternal life together and come back to the Earth Plane as newborn souls. Promising to find each other again so that they would have the life on Earth that had previously been denied them.
As Lauren and Samuel, they grew up knowing there was a very close bond between them but always thought of it more as a sibling affection. It wasn't until they had lived a full life apart that they realised how deep their feelings went for each other. Now each one hoping that the other felt the same and that they would re-unite to fulfill the promise they made to each other in the Spirit World.
