Would you like to know what didn't cost any money? Using your imagination. We Baby Boomers certainly knew how to use our imagination to compensate for what we couldn't buy. As anyone from Pittsburgh knows, we have acres of dense woods everywhere in the city. Our minds took those wooded areas and turned them into the deepest and darkest parts of Africa. When night fell, it was time to see how many Lightning Bugs we could catch. Our objective was to obtain enough to fill a jar and use it as a lantern.
My son surprised me with this comment a few years back after I shared some of my childhood adventures. "Wow Dad", that was such a fantastic time to be a kid." He was right. It most definitely was. At the risk of sounding biased, which I confess I am, I believe the 1950s and early 1960s were some of the best times to be a kid
Since there isn't really a Time Machine, our memories are the next best thing. So, if you are a Baby Boomer like me, or even if you are not, come back in time with me. Back to relive some of those special, and wacky elementary school years. Back to a time when our imagination could rocket us into outer space like an astronaut or have us exploring the jungles of the Amazon in the wooded hills of Pittsburgh. If you loved the TV shows: Leave it to Beaver, Dennis the Menace, or The Wonder Years, this is the book for you. The only difference is, I lived these stories.
