Winslow Homer. His magazine cover Illustrations -- 1857 to 1887
Smithsonian American Art Museum
Winslow Homer (February 24, 1836 – September 29, 1910) contributed illustrations of Boston life and rural New England life to magazines such as Ballou's Pictorial and Harper's Weekly. His early works were mostly commercial wood engravings of urban and country social scenes characterized by clean outlines, simplified forms, dramatic contrast of light and dark, and lively figure groupings, and on the front lines of the Civil War, he sketched battle scenes and camp life.
His 100 magazine cover illustrations are displayed in chronological order -- 1857 to 1887.
This pictorial book is perfect for coffee table, waiting room, or as a gift for someone who enjoys great art.
