A significant event in the classical music world transpired circa 2009, when Sir Georg Solti's esteemed World Orchestra for Peace debuted in the Middle East. The setting was the Abu Dhai Festival, and the symphony received the invitation itself from maestro Valery Gergiev. The famed conductor put together a program of acclaimed symphonies by preeminent Russian composers Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev, plus compositions by Gioacchino Rossini and Johann Strauss II. The concert itself appears in this release; selections include: Rossini's Overture to 'Guillaume Tell', Prokofiev's Symphony No. 1 in D Major, Op. 25 'Classical,' Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E Minor, Op. 64 and Strauss's Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka, Op. 214.
