There is a saying, "It was a Friday night and it seemed like a good idea at the time." That sums up the beginning of the State Capitols Project. When Jane Moorman told her brother of her idea of photographing state capitols, he said, "You do know there are 50 states and two of them you can't drive to." Her answer was, "Your point is? It gives me a good reason to visit every state." Each capitol has its own unique beauty that reflects the state's personality when it was built. From the sandstone exterior and the cherry wood stairway, the influence of the down-to-earth personality of Wyoming is evident. Even the wood framing of the stained-glass rotunda dome depicts the influence of a wagon wheel. Wall décor painting is trompe l'oeil art technique that creates an optical illusion that the object exists in three dimensions. Murals in both legislative chambers depict the settling of the territory that became Wyoming.
