So what happens when you think you have it all figured out? When it came to health and wellness and finding my best health and even how I could help others find their best health...I thought I had it all figured out. Living with type 1 diabetes since the age of 7, I made numerous trips to my local pharmacy and I was always mesmerized by how awesome my pharmacist was. She always talked to me like I was someone and even when I picked up my insulin, literally a lifesaving drug, she never made me feel like a number. I was Tina and my health was important. This experience influenced my decision to pursue a career as a pharmacist and I was excited to give back and help others find their best health. Fast forward 37 years...and things just weren't the same. My desire to help people in the pharmacy was nothing like my experience when I was 7. What I learned behind that pharmacy counter was hard to swallow. People were no longer people. Now, they had become numbers. People were a quota, a prescription, a service and my ability to help them make decisions for their best health...was discouraged. A quick survey up and down the pharmacy bays and all the medications that stared back at me got me thinking. Not only was I thinking about their health but it got me thinking about my health. No one was getting healthy and no one was getting less medications. It was like I had become an all you can eat buffet except when it comes to medications, this is one meal, that the fewer the trips you make, the better. It took opening a package insert one day and reading it's 2-point font fine detail to realize...there had to be another way. It would take me a few years to come up with a plan but in 2019...I started my transformation. I left my career as a pharmacist and became a nationally board-certified health and wellness coach and got certified as a diabetes care and education specialist as well as becoming board certified in advanced diabetes management. What I learned on this journey, when I found ME, and put ME back into the equation was that the impacts to my health...were astounding! This workbook is meant to share a part of my journey as well as the activities I did that were so critical to finding my best health. In a world that seems to have normalized being sick...I hope that you will see through my journey...that it doesn't have to be this way and there is a different approach out there. The current approach, which is so eager to leave you out of the equation, is not the answer. This approach will help you...find YOU...and put you back into the equation. Once you find you...the magic pill you have been seeking...is there. Start your journey and remember that you can do this...one step and one bite...at a time.
